Usaha Batik Tulis Lasem Pada Masa Pandemi COVID-19 Di Lasem (2020-2022)

This research discusses the hand-written batik business during the COVID-19 pandemic in
Lasem (2020-2022). Lasem is one of the centers of the hand-drawn batik industry in
Indonesia, which developed long before independence. The focus discussion in this
research includes four batik businesses with micro, small, medium, and large scale, namely
Juniah’s batik business, Maranatha Ong’s Art Lasem, Sumber Rejeki, and Pusaka Beruang.
The aim is to describe the condition of the batik business in Lasem which at that time was
affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The writing of this article refers to the historical
science research method, the step starts from selecting research topics, heuristic, source
criticism, data interpretation, and historiography. Interviews are used in collecting sources
to obtain data directly from historical actors. Other sources from news such as Kompas and
books are also used as reference materials. The results of the research show that in general,
the COVID-19 pandemic harmed batik businesses in Lasem, both on a micro, small,
medium, and large scale. The government’s policy dealing with the pandemic has limited
the space for batik entrepreneurs to move. Every batik entrepreneur has made various effort
to respond to the impact so their business can continue.
